School Council
Lyon Park School Council plays an important role in the decision making and forward planning at the school and enables all children to have a voice in whole school initiatives. Every child is invited to apply for the role of school councillor where they must write a letter to Miss Colgan, detailing why they feel they would make a good candidate. Miss Colgan, along with the SLT, then select 4 letters per class and these children are the candidates. Each class from Year 1 up to Year 6 elect one school council representative through a polling day similar to a general election. The results are then revealed during a celebration assembly where the school councillors are presented with their special jumper and notebook.

The School Council then meets every few weeks, allowing pupils to share their thoughts on the school. During the first meeting a Chair, Vice Chair, Bursar and Minute Taker are elected and the importance of the children learning to run the meetings themselves (under the supervision of an adult) is emphasised. The school councillors are aware of the important job of representing the ideas of their peers and making changes to help make the school a better place.
